How to reach the university by car, train or plane



BY TRAIN:

Konstanz can easily be reached by train from Northern and Western Germany, from the regions of Frankfurt and Stuttgart and from Switzerland. The main station is called Konstanz Hbf. There is a bus stop in front of the station. Buses no. 9A or 9B leave every fifteen minutes. There is another bus stop directly at the main entrance of the university (Section A).




BY PLANE:

The nearest international airports are those in Zurich (Switzerland) and in Stuttgart. It is also possible to reach Konstanz via Frankfurt or Munich airport. From Frankfurt airport, there are daily Lufthansa flights to Friedrichshafen, a small local airport on the northern shore of the lake. From Munich, there is a regular plane to Friedrichshafen as well, but from Tuesday to Friday only.

Konstanz can easily be reached by train from Zurich. The railway station is located in the basement of the airport. A return ticket Zurich-Airport/Konstanz costs 43.00 SFR, a one way ticket 25.00 SFR.

From Stuttgart airport you have to take the Underground (German: S-Bahn) to the main train station, Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, and then the train to Konstanz. You have to change once, the journey takes about two and a half hours.

Going by train to Konstanz from Frankfurt airport takes about four hours. To reach the main station you have to take the S-Bahn. There is a direct train from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof every two hours.

The journey from Munich airport to Konstanz takes at least four hours. You have to change at least once, usually twice or thrice.

From Friedrichshafen airport one needs to travel by bus to Meersburg/Fähre (ferry), and then cross the lake by ferry. At the Konstanz ferry station, you can reach the university by bus (no. 1, then change to no. 9).




BY CAR:

From Stuttgart:
Take the motorway A81, at intersection Hegaukreuz you continue on federal road (German: Bundesstraße) B33 to Konstanz. In Konstanz you have to follow the signs Universität
.

From Zurich:
Take the motorway N7 to Kreuzlingen/Konstanz, where you cross the border to Germany. You drive around the city (you can't go wrong, there is only one road). After crossing the bridge over the Rhine, you have to follow the signs Universität.

There are two big parking lots (fee: 2.50 DM a day, Sunday), lot Süd and lot Nord (follow the signs). From there you walk about 150m to the main entrance of the university (Section A).
