Open Science Conference 2020: Call for Poster Presentations and Speakers
Tuesday, 03. December 2019
15:15 – 16:45
Math.-Nat. Sektion, FB Informatik u. Informationswissenschaft
Prof. Dr. Bela Gipp, Bergische Universität Wuppertal
Academic plagiarism and scientific data falsification are two of the most severe forms of research misconduct and have strong negative impacts on academia and society. In this talk, Bela Gipp will present the key idea of his latest DFG grant proposal, which was motivated by recent cases in which reviewers rejected manuscripts to publish the key contributions themselves. To prevent such forms of misconduct, the outcome of the project will be a distributed system that maintains a blockchain-backed trail for research data and enables the detection of academic plagiarism while keeping the content confidential. The system will be open and controlled by the reseach community as opposed to being consolidated in the hands of only a few private corporations as is currently the case.
