Apply for an Erasmus+ exchange placement

The application process

1 February

The application process for the Erasmus programme is organised by the department. The application deadline for the next winter semester, the entire academic year and the summer semester of the following year is always 1 February. If this day falls on a weekend, the deadline is moved to the next working day. There is no alternative cut-off date.

Who can apply?

Bachelor’s students who have completed their basic studies (1st-4th semester) and all master’s students who have already had their meeting with their mentor can apply. If more applications are submitted than there are placements at a partner university, a selection process will take place. The Erasmus exchange programme is not linked to a specific nationality.

Online application portal

In order to study abroad with Erasmus+, the department has to recommend you to the partner university of your choice. To enable us to do this, you will need to fill out an application form to help us decide your case. You can apply online by using the online application form.

Duration: a maximum of four weeks

Counting from the application deadline, you can expect to hear from us within an average of two to four weeks. We will contact you if we require further information.

Nomination at the partner university

We will email you if your application was successful, asking you to either accept or reject your offer of an exchange placement. Once you have accepted the placement, we will issue an official recommendation to the partner university, who will then contact you.

The International Office takes over

The next steps will be coordinated by the Erasmus outgoing student coordinators in the International Office. The IO will contact you if your nomination was successful and provide step-by-step guidance to help you organise your study placement abroad.

The selection process

We take the following criteria into account when selecting suitable candidates:

  • Academic performance: examinations completed during the basic stages of the study programme (i.e. has the student completed all required performance assessments and average grade)
  • The student’s individual motivation
  • Does the student have any relevant language skills and does he/she meet the language requirements of the host university?
  • Courses/modules the student proposes to take while abroad (are the courses offered at the partner university compatible with the University of Konstanz's requirements for the advanced stages of the study programme?)

Please note that your average grade constitutes only one criterion among several and does not count for more than the others.

Clearing

Do you want to go abroad on exchange even though the application deadline has come and gone? Then you might consider entering the clearing process that lets you apply for places that are still available. We will get in touch via email to let you know about your options.
