Alongside teaching, research occupies a central position in our department. The work groups and the PhD Graduate Program focusing on "Explorative analysis and visualisation of large information spaces" are conducting research in the area of practical and applied computer science.

PhD Graduate Program
Members of the PhD Program are organised into work groups and collaborate with experienced scientists and leading academic institutes. The focus of research is the development of methods to support the exploration, analysis and management of large information spaces.

The ten work groups that comprise the department are involved in a large number of research projects in the area of "Exploration and visualisation of large information spaces". The interdisciplinary approach is one of the objectives of the excellence initiative.

Thanks to the development of gigapixel images, photographs can be now be represented with extreme accuracy turning it into a cinematic experience.
The powerwall, with a display area of 5.20 m x 2.15 m, is unique in Germany and provides completely new perspectives for the area of visual data exploration.
