The department carries out joint research on methods and systems used to visualise, analyse, explore and process large information spaces. This shared profile is reflected in the research of our working groups, who specialise in different application areas such as big data, cyber-physical systems, health, network science or software certification.
Our department plays a central role in the Cluster of Excellence “Centre of the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour”. The department participates in various interdisciplinary projects, e.g. with the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, politics and public administration, economics, linguistics, psychology, sociology, sport science, literature, art, media and history.
